Cargo vans are the unsung heroes of the road, bearing the weight of your tools, gear, and countless miles of adventure. But with time comes wear and tear. Scratches, rust, and decay can take their toll on your vehicle's interior. The good news? Flex Seal Spray can cover up those imperfections and help keep your van looking good for the long haul. Read on to learn how to seal the interior of your cargo van using Flex Seal.
Begin by removing any tools, debris, or foreign materials from the interior of your van. Next, clean the areas you’ll be applying Flex Seal so they are free of grease, dirt, and debris.
If rust is present, use a sander or scraper to remove as much of it as possible before applying Flex Seal. This will help increase adhesion.
Flexpert Tip: Use painter’s tape on any areas you do not want Flex Seal Spray to get on.
Note: Before applying Flex Seal, read all directions and take proper safety precautions, such as being in a well-ventilated area and wearing protective gear while applying. We recommend opening all vehicle doors and windows during the application and drying process.
Now that the inside of your van is prepped, it’s time to get sealin’. Grab your can of Flex Seal and shake it for about 30 seconds. Then, apply Flex Seal using a smooth sweeping motion, about 8-10 inches from the application surface.
● Spray a larger area than where any leaks or holes appear and feather the edges
● Apply thin, even coats, allowing each coat to dry (24-48hrs) before adding the next
● Continue to shake the can periodically to ensure the contents remain properly mixed
Flex Seal can also be used on the outside body of a vehicle. However, it should not be used to seal a gasoline tank, oil tank, or any other flammable material. Flex Seal is not made to withstand extreme heat or pressure.
Flexpert Tip: A 14-oz. can of Flex Seal Spray will cover approximately 12 sq. ft. For larger jobs, we recommend using Flex Seal MAX.
In most applications, Flex Seal Spray will be dry to the touch within 2-3 hours and will fully cure within 24-48 hours. Dry time can vary due to the surrounding temperature, humidity, and thickness of the coating. Once you’re done using Flex Seal, make sure to store it in a cool, dry environment.
Flexpert Tip: If Flex Seal Spray gets on your hands, we suggest using a dry paper towel to wipe it off. If it's dry, use pumice soap to wash and remove it.
And there you have it! Your van’s interior has been restored thanks to the power of Flex Seal Spray and the ingenuity of a DIYer (that’s you). Hungry for more DIY projects? Check out our blog to see what else the Flex Seal Family of Products can help you do.
