How To Seal Sliding Doors
Our video below will maximize your success when preparing for a flood using the Flex Seal Flood Protection line. Sliding doors can vary in shape and design, so it is important to seal any area where water may enter.

IMPORTANT
Flood Paste in a Cartridge is the base coat for your first layer of protection. Use a gloved finger, Flex Gap Filler tool, or similar tool to push into all seams and openings to help create a watertight seal. Always be cautious of any sharp objects that may cause injury.
Apply Spray
Most sliding doors contain a threshold in the space between the two doors, which has a lot of hard-to-reach areas. Flood spray is always a good primer coat for these kinds of hard-to-reach areas.
Spray about 8 to 12” from the surface and fill in all the openings in the track. Apply several even coats using a smooth, sweeping motion. Applying a coat that’s too heavy can cause air bubbles, which can lead to water seeping under the tracks.
You’ll want to let each coat dry to the touch, about 30-60 minutes (depending on temperature and humidity) before applying another.

After the final coat of Flood Spray is dry, apply our Flood Paste in the cartridge directly between the track and the bottom of the doors. Seal the front and sides of the tracks using the same method. Tracks are also designed with weep holes, which you need to locate and fill with paste. Use your gloved finger, Flex Gap Filler tool or other tool to push it in and smooth it out.
Apply Flood Paste to seal where the door meets the frame, where the frame meets the casing, where the casing meets the external wall, where the glass meets the frame, where the doors meet and slide past each other, and the handle. Be sure to push it into the seams and smooth it out, which will help create a watertight barrier.

Additional Layers
If you applied Flood Protection Paste in thin, even layers, you should expect it to be dry to the touch in two to six hours. Next, we recommend applying additional coats of our Flood Protection Paste as needed to ensure all gaps and holes have been filled.
Follow the same application process as the first layer, but each individual coat that you apply should be wider and overlap the previous layer of Flood Protection Paste.
Once the doors have been sealed and are completely dry and you already have multiple layers of Flood Protection Paste, we recommend using our Flood Protection Liquid as an additional layer of protection.
When applying our Flood Protection Liquid, use your brush and apply it directly on top of our Flood Protection Paste, making sure you overlap your final coat — this will help cover any pinholes or openings that you can't see.
Remember you want to make sure all the flood protection products are fully cured before a flood arrives.
